Lawton "Law" Cross, Jr. (b. 1962) is the son of Lawton Cross, the husband of Danielle Cross. He lives on Melba Avenue in Woodland Hills.

He is a former detective with the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division, and the partner of detective Jack Dorsey. In May of 1999, he and Dorsey investigated the murder of Angella Benton, but the investigation had reached a dead end. They were looking into the possibility that Benton's murder was connected with the armed robbery of $2 million from a movie set. They worked both cases for several months, even having an office at Archway Pictures for about a month.

Somehow Cross and Dorsey became involved with Linus Simonson in a conspiracy to cover up the murder and robbery. They became concerned about their safety when an FBI crime analyst called to say she had found an anomaly in the serial number of one of the bills that was reportedly stolen. To protect themselves, Cross and Dorsey kidnapped and killed the FBI agent and buried her, along with her laptop computer, in a remote area of Griffith Park.

On 6 April 2000, Cross was shot and paralyzed in Nat's Bar where he was having lunch with Dorsey. In fact, the two were waiting to meet with Simonson. Instead, Simonson shot both officers, killing Dorsey and the bartender. Cross was in a coma for six weeks, after which he was unable to move any part of his body below his head.

In 2002, upon hearing that Harry Bosch had retired, he contacted Bosch and asked him to look into the Benton murder. He said it was one that he couldn't get out of his mind, but in fact he was hoping to lead Bosch to Simonson for revenge, without disclosing his own criminal involvement. In discussing the case, Lawton told Bosch about Dorsey being contacted by the FBI crime analyst, setting in motion a rash of additional killings.
