Jake McKittrick was a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department Hollywood Division's Homicide unit in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He is the husband of Mary McKittrick, and a resident of Venice, Florida.

McKittrick served in the military during World War II, stopping off in Los Angeles on his way back to Florida after the end of the War. He stayed in L.A., however, and joined the Police Department, becoming a detective and joining the Robberty-Homicide Unit in 1953.

He and his partner investigated the death of Marjorie Lowe in late October of 1961, and he notified the victim's 11-year-old son. He later checked out the case-file on Lowe's unsolved murder from the LAPD storage facility in 1972 before retiring in 1973 and returning to Florida with his wife. In Venice, he ran a fishing charter until the early 1990s, after which he took up fishing as a personal hobby.

McKittrick received a visit from LAPD detective Harry Bosch, who had reopened the unsolved case of his mother's murder. He took Bosch aboard his boat, the Trophy into the Gulf of Mexico and recounted the investigation.

Portrayal[]

McKittrick's role as lead investigator into the Lowe murder is given to the character of John Caffrey in Bosch, the television adaptation of Connelly's writing.
