Elvis Cole is a private investigator in Hollywood, California, and the partner of Joe Pike. Cole is a veteran of the Vietnam War

He is named after Elvis Presley.

NotesEdit

Cole was created by author Robert Crais, a friend of Michael Connelly's, and has not made a named appearance in the Harry Bosch series to date. His only cameo appearance was a brief moment in Lost Light when Bosch spotted Cole's yellow 1966 Corvette and tipped the PI a "smooth sailing, brother" salute.

The unnamed appearance was Connelly's return nod for Crais's inclusion of Harry Bosch in a similarly unnamed appearance in The Last Detective that established the two characters as neighbors in the Hollywood Hills. Cole has lived in the neighborhood longer than Bosch; in The Monkey's Raincoat (1987), Cole says:

"I’m in a rustic A-frame on a little road off Woodrow Wilson Drive above Hollywood. The only other house is a cantilevered job to my east. A stuntman I know lives there with his girlfriend and their two little boys. Sometimes during the day they come out on their deck and we’ll see each other and wave. The boys call my place the teepee house. I like that, too." [1]
