Earl Morse was a foster parent and a resident of Los Angeles.

In 1966, he and his wife took in 16-year-old Harry Bosch from McClaren Youth Hall because Earl believed that Bosch, who was lefthanded, could be taught to pitch. Morse attempted to train Bosch for nearly a year until Harry decided instead to join the Army.

In the mid-1970s, Morse attended a Sunday afternoon Dodgers game, where he became inebriated. While driving home, he was pulled over by Bosch, who was by that time as police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. Instead of arresting Morse for drunk-driving, Bosch took the man's keys and called his wife to pick him up.
