In 1966, he and his wife took in 16-year-old Harry Bosch from McClaren Youth Hall because Earl believed that Bosch, who was lefthanded, could be taught to pitch. Morse attempted to train Bosch for nearly a year until Harry decided instead to join the Army.
In the mid-1970s, Morse attended a Sunday afternoon Dodgers game, where he became inebriated. Instead of arresting Morse for drunk-driving, Bosch took the man's keys and called his wife to pick him up.
