David N. Storey (b. 1962) was a film director in Hollywood, Californa in the 1990s. He directed seven blockbuster films in seven years, including Dead Point and The Fifth Horizon. He maintained an office at Archway Studios.

In May 1998, he went on a date with Alicia Lopez. A few days later she was found dead in her bed of apparent autoerotic asphyxiation.

On 14 April, 1999, he went on a date with Annabelle Crowe, an aspiring actress. They went to his house and had sex, during which he choked her until she was unconscious.

On 12 October 2000, he attended the premier of his film Dead Point with actress Donatella Speers, after which he and Speers returned to his house and had sex. The actress was found dead in her bed the next morning by her roommate, apparently the victim of autoerotic asphyxiation. Storey was interviewed two days later by LAPD detectives Jerry Edgar and Harry Bosch. The interview was very brief because Storey abruptly walked out, against the advice of his personal attorney.

A team consisting of Bosch, Edgar, Kiz Rider, a two-man forensics team, and a photographer searched Storey's house but found no evidence that Speers had been there. As Bosch was leaving the house, Storey boasted that he had killed her and would get away with it. Less than a week later, Storey was arrested and charged with the actress's murder. It was filed as Case No. 00897.

In January of 2001 his trial began. It was held in Van Nuys courthouse Dept. N because it was the only courtroom that could hold the number of expected press and spectators. Storey was represented by John Reason Fowkkes. During testimony he typically sketched with a felt pen and appeared to take little notice of what was being said.

He ultimately pleaded guilty to the murder of Speers as well as the murder of Alicia Lopez. In addition, he was charged with conspiracy in the murder of Edward Gunn. He had hired Rudy Tafero to kill Gunn and frame Harry Bosch for it.
